It's not unusual to get hot food from a chip shop, but a little different to see a Tom Jones impersonator perform there.

A copycat of the Welsh crooner will be appearing on Monday (28) at Jack's Fish and Chip Shop, Church Road, Ashford.

Brooklands-college.jpgThe battle to save the historic Brooklands College building in Church Road, Ashford has been lost after councillors agreed to have it bulldozed.

Spelthorne Council's planning committee approved the college's application to build a new state-of-the-art building on the site of the doomed 1911 former Ashford Grammar School.

Brooklands band win national award

AN ASHFORD band have won a songwriting award at the National Festival of Music for Youth.

Teenage rockers Hollow Limit, who left Brooklands College, Ashford, last month, won the national award for Outstanding Original Composition at the ceremony in Birmingham on July 7.

Tesco planning to expand

tesco-ashford-3.jpgTesco is planning to enlarge its store in Town Lane, Ashford, by building on to the car park.

The supermarket giant hopes to increase floorspace by extending the south side of its building. It admits some car parking spaces will be lost but does not think shoppers will be inconvenienced.

An exhibit with details of Tesco's proposals was viewed by 400 shoppers earlier this month.

SPELTHORNE Council planning committee will finally make a decision on the future of Brooklands College, Ashford on Wednesday July 23.
The decision on whether to bulldoze the former Spelthorne College building in Church Road and replace it with a modern building was deferred in June because councillors could not agree.

A CHARITY that supports dementia sufferers and those suffering from memory problems has been awarded a £3,000 Sport Relief grant.

Ashford Horticultural Society's 60th anniversary summer show will take place on Saturday at St Matthew's Church Hall at 2.30pm.

Tesco supermarket has applied to Spelthorne Council to build a pharmacy block at its store in Town Lane, Ashford. It intends to extend the store to incorporate the chemist and a lobby.

A trimaran for use by disabled people will be launched by Queen Mary Sailability on Wednesday, July 16 at the club in Ashford Road, Ashford at 6pm
