tesco-ashford-3.jpgTesco is planning to enlarge its store in Town Lane, Ashford, by building on to the car park.

The supermarket giant hopes to increase floorspace by extending the south side of its building. It admits some car parking spaces will be lost but does not think shoppers will be inconvenienced.

An exhibit with details of Tesco's proposals was viewed by 400 shoppers earlier this month.

Tesco corporate affairs manager James Wiggam said: "We were delighted that so many of our customers took the time to visit the exhibition and have been greatly encouraged by the support they have shown
for our proposals.

"Our plans for the Town Lane store represent a major investment for Tesco, and form an important part of our policy to continually improve our shopping offer for customers."

Tesco say shoppers' views will influence will be taken into account when the company applies to Spelthorne Council for planning permission in the Autumn.

In the meantime its plans are on display until August 9 and people can register their views by calling a 'consultation hotline' on 0845 603 0894.
