Harper Hotel for sale for £2.5m

The troubled Harper Hotel is for sale for £2.5m but it may not end the misery for neighbours who have been plagued by vandalism, noise and antisocial behaviour.

Police have been called to the Fordbridge Road hotel, which houses homeless people from Hounslow, 55 times in the last two-and-a-half years and neighbours fear the disruption is likely to continue because the property is being sold as a business.

The Christie & Co listing for the 35-bedroom property boasts net annual sales of almost £250,000 from local authority referrals but makes no mention of the assaults, cruelty to children and criminal damage that have taken place at the hotel.

One neighbour who has had his car vandalised twice in the past year but did not want to be named through fears of reprisals said: "When I heard it was up for sale I was over the moon. I thought the nightmare was over but now I just don't know what's happening.

"It seems an awful lot of money they are selling it for - someone's clearly making a killing out of all the disruption and crime that we have to suffer. I just hope someone reasonable buys it and this place will finally be closed for good."

A five-bedroom family home in the Fordbridge Road is currently on the market for £475,000 but its price is dwarfed by that of the detatched hotel.

Fifteen arrests have been made at the property since January 2006 and the trouble has led Spelthorne Council officers to put pressure on their counterparts at Hounslow Council to help clamp down on problematic residents.

A Houslow Council spokesman said it was not aware of what the future plans for the hotel were.
He added: "If the new owners of the Harper Hotel retain it as a hotel and continue to allow it to be used for Hounslow placements, the London Borough of Hounslow will continue to place clients there.

"Should the new owners wish to implement a change of use, Hounslow Council will seek alternative accommodation for its clients."
