parkland-grove-fire-1-19.jpgA pensioner who died in a fire at his home in Parkland Grove, Ashford, on Monday, has been named as 88-year-old Jack Webster.

The widower's body was discovered on the ground floor of his home of 60 years by firefighters, who were called to the scene at about 2.30am by neighbours who smelt smoke in the air.

Crews from Staines and Sunbury took about two hours to put out the blaze, which investigators believe started in the downstairs kitchen or back room and was not suspicious.

Jane Spencer, who lives in Parkland Grove, said: "It's tragic. Everyone here is in shock. He was such a friendly man and he used to cycle along waving to everyone - he was so lively for his age."

We'd like to hear from you.
