Salvation Army helps credit crunch victims
Parcels of food and toys were distributed to families worst hit by the credit crunch by volunteers from the Salvation Army last week.
More than 400 packages were put together at the Woodthorpe Road church by forty volunteers before being handed over to social services workers who passed them on to the most needy families.
The annual initiative was organised by volunteers Judy Kerslake and Kim Quinn and among the 40-strong workforce were 13 staff from BUPA in Staines.
Commander of the Salvation Army Ashford corps, Christine Perkins, said: "There are those who are in need but don't necessarily ask for help themselves and, particularly with the credit crunch, families are needing that extra support. So this year in particular the parcels are a great help."
The Salvation Army are open to provide lunch and more parcels to more than 100 people in need on Christmas Day.
