What next for The Feathers?

Posted by Steve Bax on Jan 30, 09 06:25 PM in Local people

feathers-pub-1-4jpg.jpgIt was once a bastion of village life but The Feathers pub in Laleham now lies empty with villagers wondering if it has a future.

The pub, which is more than 200 years old, closed last month and is now boarded up and on the market, with its very existence uncertain.

A selection of directories covering Spelthorne and dating back more than 200 years have gone on public display.

The documents, which are equivalent to today's telephone directories, are available to view at Spelthorne Museum in Elmsleigh Road, Staines.

DTDwaitinggameillio.jpgHow a 2 days commission can take a lifetime or more.

One thing I am not good at is waiting for anything, be it the latest gadget, a friend to show up or even advert breaks on tv shows... I just can't do it. Alas, like most people in the universe, I have to wait.... and wait on other humans all the time.

College praised

Posted by Adam Courtney on Jan 27, 09 03:29 PM in Schools/colleges

Thomas Knyvett College in Ashford has been commended by the Government for being one of the most improved schools in the country.

Schools Minister Jim Knight has written to head teacher Nicola Aboud praising the 'excellent' achievement of the school in Church Road in improving GCSE results.

DTD Obummer.jpgWell... now the recession is in full swing and the economy is down the pan things are going to get tight.

Needless to say this seriously effects the line of work I am striving for, mainly because anything classed as 'ARTY' is a luxury item to a lot of companies and my line of work can either be overlooked or they get the receptionists mate 'Kev' to do them on his new pc.

This does not put little me in a good place as you can imagine.

Well, it's strange what can transpire in a couple of days...

I am now a 'friend of the Conservative Party', which will cheer my family up no end as they are about as Labour as you can get... especially my step-father

I am working on illustrations for the local Conservatives.

I am attending the Spelthorne Business Forum Meeting at Kempton Park where I will be having a display set up also.

Odd how these things happen.

::I HAVE AN AGENT::

Over six years ago I went to see a top illustration/graphics agent in London with my folio in hand and my dreams on my cuff.

I was given some advice on what I should do to make my graphics better, basically use the pen and ink as drafts and work on creating everything on digital.

I went back home, tail between legs but not down hearted... I knew I would get on their books on day.

That day was Yesterday when I received a contract through the post to sign and send back.

I NOW HAVE AN AGENT :) and they are one of the biggest and most respected in the industry.

Meet your bobby

Beat bobbies in Spelthorne will be targeting a street in the borough every week in a bid to get to know as many residents as possible.

Every week officers from each of Spelthorne's 10 safer neighbourhood teams will be visiting a street in their area while out on the beat and calling at homes to introduce themselves, leave their contact details and speak to residents about any issues.

No one was injured and it is not believed to be suspicious.
