DRAWN-Together: Meetings Day
Well, it's strange what can transpire in a couple of days...
I am now a 'friend of the Conservative Party', which will cheer my family up no end as they are about as Labour as you can get... especially my step-father
I am working on illustrations for the local Conservatives.
I am attending the Spelthorne Business Forum Meeting at Kempton Park where I will be having a display set up also.
Odd how these things happen.
Meetings...meetings...meetings
My meeting with Cllr Marian Rough went well, as did my signing on for change.
As soon as we parked up in Staines we bumped into the Major and his Lady Wife and he started making a B-Line to Marian and talking before they even got close about the great cartoon she popped through is door!!!. This seemed a good time to be introduced as the fella that did it, kinda handy being there really.
After a little chat about basic politics and the toons I pointed out that it was only a rough toon as wasn't even half complete, which seemed to amuse him and we parted ways so we could make my next appointment with another councilor.
Over a hot latte (FREE), I was in a nice discussion with another Councillor over my possible additions to their e-Mag and also printed media and before I knew it I had signed up to several little illustration commissions and a couple of articles.. which is always fun, well would be if my style of writing wasn't so loose and let's face it, from this blog, careless.
Next stop the Council Offices for another meeting, this time with Liz who is the co-ordinator of the Spelthorne Business Forum. She had already heard of me and also had all my details at hand and to make matters easier had also gone strolling through my folio at an earlier date... this helped bunches and the conversation soon moved on to ways that I could be helping the local council in publications and then being invited not only to attend the SBF in Kensington, but to also do a nice big display of what I actually do and how it can help local business interests (logo, marketing, design yadda yadda).
I finally arrived back home later that afternoon exhausted and with a bunch of encrypted text on a notepad which I keep reassuring myself is actually my own handwriting.
Back to the drawing board
Friday was pretty much a mellow day of playing with Ethan and his new Iron Man toy and cartooning one of the local councilors as a test for an illustration I am working on for a story regarding the twinning of Staines with the Maldives. The character design is going ok now I have some better pictures of the fella in question.
Looking forward to a day with the missus and the kids on Saturday, I don't plan on doing any graphics but I probably will.
Still have to sort out my business cards though.. the last company let me down.
I don't know where this little adventure will lead at the moment, but that's the beauty of things I guess, you never know where they will lead you.
I could end up getting a commission doing childrens book illustrations, spot tooning for magazines or papers or anything at this point. I am open to all ideas and possibilities. So long as I keep learning and can keep a roof over our heads, heat, food and coffee without having to panic all the time I will keep trying for the next level.
::RANDOM FACT::
My favorite animator is Bill Plympton (see his work here) and my Favorite Cartoonist is Gary Larson creator of the Farside books and characters.
Both these men are GODS to me !
We'd like to hear from you. Send your stories, pics and videos
