Historic phone books on display
A selection of directories covering Spelthorne and dating back more than 200 years have gone on public display.
The documents, which are equivalent to today's telephone directories, are available to view at Spelthorne Museum in Elmsleigh Road, Staines.
The earliest is a transcription of the Staines entry in the Universal British Directory of 1798 while the most recent is a copy of Kelly's, which features every town and villages in the borough.
Some directories cover only one area, others are street directories that include every household while many contain a potted history of Spelthorne.
Museum curator, Ralph Parsons, said the documents may prove useful to someone researching their family history.
The directories are on display in nine folders in the Thames Room, which is open on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday afternoons.
