Thugs' uncharitable act

Posted by Adam Courtney on Jan 12, 09 12:36 PM in Crime

Mindless thugs smashed a concrete slab through the front of a charity shop.

They targeted the glass front door of the RSPCA shop in Church Road, Ashford, on Thursday January 8, but didn't steal anything.

Distraught shop manager Ken Stevens, and chairman of the charity's Hillingdon, Slough, Windsor and Kingston branch, Irene Hansford, says it's the latest in a string of bad luck stories to have hit it in the past month.

Irene said: "The shop roof has started to leak and we just had to spend £4,000 on a new engine for our van. This is just more expense. We have no idea what happened.

"We arrived and the door was boarded. It's a body blow but luckily we don't keep cash on the premises overnight. We're going to have to pay for additional security, though."

Ken added: "It's a surprise they didn't steal anything but I would imagine the alarm scared them off. Neighbours say they saw them go off in a gold coloured car."

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222.
