Alternative take on WAGS at Ashford school

They may have dressed up to the nines but a WAGS day at St David's School in Ashford took on a whole different meaning.

For instead of the theme being about Wives And Girlfriends of a celebrity, the year 11 and sixth form students were taught that it stands for Working And Gaining Success.

The day, held earlier this month, provided the girls with a variety of sessions on various skills that will be important in their future education and career choices such as time management, interview techniques, budgeting, research skills and creating persuasive presentations.

The title for the day was a result of some recent national research showing some girls wanted to abandon their studies in favour of pursuing fame and aspire to be the wife or girlfriend of a celebrity.

Organiser of the day and sixth form head, Sally Tredget, said: "At St David's we like to help our girls fulfil more ambitious aspirations. With this thought in mind we organised a key skills day with our own WAGS theme - Working And Gaining Success.

"Teachers took the theme up and promoted the day dressed as WAGS - it was great fun and gave the girls some really useful skills too."

The pupils also enjoyed a WAGS themed lunch, although lemonade replaced champagne on this occasion.
