Ashford ward reopens after two years
A ward at Ashford Hospital has been refurbished and reopened to offer additional beds and improve services for patients.
The 22-bed Fielding Ward, which reopened last week, incorporates four side rooms with en suite facilities and has been refurbished to bring it into line with the latest guidance on infection control and the elimination of mixed sex wards.
Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust has scheduled the use of the ward for patients needing orthopaedic rehabilitation and the side rooms will be used to isolate patients in cases of cross-infection.
New disposable curtains, wipe-down chairs and toilet and washing facilities will be in use on all the bays to improve infection control and the ward is also equipped to cope with patients weighing more than 15 stone.
Acting director of nursing and governance, Ruth Lallmahomed, said: "The facilities are impressive and comply with the latest guidance for helping to prevent the spread of infection, particularly important for our more vulnerable patients."
The ward closed in 2006 when the accident and emergency service was transferred to St Peter's Hospital, in Chertsey.
