Snow brings Surrey to a standstill

snow.jpgSnow has brought Surrey to a standstill as schools have closed, services have been cancelled and residents have been urged to stay inside.

Surrey County Council closed all schools in the county this morning due to the severe weather conditions.

The MET office has issued warnings of severe or extreme weather to continue throughout Monday and Tuesday in the South East.

Similarly traffic is being diverted off the M25.

Residents are being encouraged to check with the MET office before thinking about driving.

All waste collection services have been suspended and all community centres have been closed in Spelthorne, Runnymede and Elmbridge.

In Elmbridge the meals on wheels service has been cancelled, and all customers have been contacted by officers to find alternative emergency arrangements. However the service in Runnymede and Spelthorne has continued, despite the conditions.

All public halls are closed, and the planning sub committee meetings tonight have been cancelled.

Surrey County Council are sending 42 snow ploughs out across the county, and are advising that unnecesary journeys be avoided.

Both Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals have cancelled all outpatient appointments today, and will make a decision later regarding appointments tomorrow. Only a small number of planned operations are taking place today, and the trust is contacting patients to let them know.

We'd like to hear from you.
