Kids have a go at being traffic cops

Ashford children became traffic cops on Wednesday August 12 as part of A2 Dominion's summer youth project.

Around 19 youngsters aged between five and 14 worked with police officers and carried out speed checks along Chertsey Road, Ashford.

The kids spoke to drivers exceeding the speed limit and explained the speed limit was 20mph due to nearby Spelthorne Junior School.

Tessa Bird, A2 Dominion community involvement co-ordinator, said: "The children did a great job on the speed check day. It was a brilliant opportunity for them to raise their awareness of road safety, and they were all very positive and proactive."

The kids also created a 'kill your speed poster' which was followed by a football match on Ashford Common.

The event was part of the summer project, which is designed for kids to think about the positive and negative side of their community so they can make it nicer.

It is being focused around Beards Road and has included kids painting bird boxes so far.
Next week the kids will carry out an estate audit and design road signs, which will be followed by a clean-up and street party in September.

We'd like to hear from you.

I recently had a failure in my upstairs lighting ring main,I found that that my long life low energy bulb had blown up. I had a look inside and guess what, there were about 30 components, which surely must make a nonsense of any long life or reliability, what a con from the EEC, why do we need them !!!!!!
