New album for Ashford based band
An Ashford based band are due to release their second album next week with the help of an Ashford based music company.
Eskimo Project, which is run by Paul Bassett, are releasing 'Once Around the Sun' on Monday September 7, and are in talks with HMV in Staines to get the album sold there.
Mr Bassett lives in Sunbury, but the album is recorded in his Ashford mum's back yard with the help of Brass Monkey Music, which was created three-years-ago by Ashford men Steve Godman and Phil Speight.
Mr Godman, 38, of Parkland Grove, said: "The album is guitar rock, but it is not heavy. Phil is a big fan of John Lennon so there is a bit of a hint there. The band pretty much is Phil, but he gets in a lot of session musicians to help him."
All three have a stake in the business, but Mr Speight is regarded as Eskimo Project, which got its name from the cold recording studio which was built in his mum's back yard.
Mr Godman said: "There was no working name for the band at the time, but the recording studio in his mum's garden is basically an outhouse, and it is absolutely freezing. When we record in the winter we have to go in wearing coats, so the name came from that.
"Brass Monkey also came from that too, with the obvious connotations of being cold."
Mr Godman said the company was set up to help local bands get off their feet.
He said: "It would be nice to make a profit, but that is not the idea. There is quite a lot of talent in the area, and if you go to a pub like the Hobgoblin on Friday or Saturday night, there are some accomplished bands with large internet followings.
"After Eskimo Project's first album was released we said if we have enough money we will contact distributors and put out another. If this new album makes money we will try and find some more local bands."
A launch party is being held on Saturday September 12 in Windsor, which has an open invitation.
