Lorry hits into telegraph pole in Ashford

Posted by Mark Goode on Nov 3, 09 11:44 AM in Crime

A lorry hit into a telegraph pole on Monday November 2, causing it to slant to one side.

Residents witnessed the incident just before 12pm in Feltham Road, Ashford, when the lorry caused the pole to smash in two, causing it to lose a wing mirror in the process.

Police cordoned off the road leaving residents in St Margaret's Avenue and members of Ashford and District Allotments & Smallholders Association cut off, as pedestrians were prevented from passing along the road.

Jose Green said: "It raises a question as to why such large lorries are allowed to travel along this busy B road at speeds which exceed 30mph."

Another nearby resident, Gwen Alexander, said: "There are an awful lot of lorries that go down here and they don't always go at the right speed. I have had situations where speeding lorries have nearly hit my dogs. It is horrendous and they shouldn't even be coming down here."

Feltham Road was closed for a few hours in both directions while the situation was dealt with.
