Staines and Ashford Christmas festivals a success
A vintage Victorian helter skelter and 46 themed Christmas trees were two of the festive frolics going on in Spelthorne at the weekend.
On Saturday November 28 in St Matthews Church, Ashford, the 11th annual Christmas tree festival took place, which saw schools, brownie and scout groups, and shopkeepers decorate trees to their own theme.
On the same day, and into Sunday Two Rivers Shopping Centre held a Christmas fair, which saw the only restored Victorian helter skelter in the country sit beside other traditional fun fair rides.
Alice Bennet, organiser of the Ashford Christmas Festival, and member of St Matthews, said: "It was a lovely day and the atmosphere was brilliant. We tried to bring the whole community together, which is why we included so many organisations in the town."
Each tree was decorated to a different theme, which saw reindeer, partridge, winter wonderland, and crowns strewn on the trees as examples.
The event was opened by pupils of Echelford School, and in the evening Mayor of Spelthorne Caroline Spencer attended a concert by the Spelthorne Young Voices.
The trees will be displayed this weekend at the church (5, 6).
