Ashford school to send boxes of goods to the poor

Young children at an Ashford primary school are preparing to send shoe boxes filled with goods around the world.

The pupils of Spelthorne Infant and Nursery School, in Chertsey Road, have collected nearly 70 boxes containing toys, books, sweets, clothing, and hygiene items and will be sending them to children living in Africa, central Asia, and eastern Europe.

The scheme is part of 'Operation Christmas Child,' which is organised by charity Samaritan's Purse, and it is hoped the presents will be received in time for Christmas.

Julia Whitnall, religious education co-ordinator at the school, said: "We have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of our families. I never thought we would manage to collect nearly 70 boxes.

"The scheme as added another dimension to our school ethos and has been a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience that giving can be more fun than receiving."

We'd like to hear from you.
