Ashford Helping Hands looking for people to care for

Volunteers who care for the elderly and disabled are looking for people to care for due to a decline in numbers over the past six months.

Ashford Helping Hands said that a few of their clients have died recently, so they have volunteers who don't have anyone to care for.

Lyn Coleman, volunteer co-ordinator, said the group are different from other groups because they involve themselves more with the person.

She said: "Some people use Spelride but they would just drop them off at Tesco, but we would go in with them and help them pick items off the shelf if they wanted."

There are currently 27 volunteers who care for around 120 people, but Mrs Coleman said a lot of those only use the service every now and again.

She said: "I would hate to think there are elderly people out there who are having trouble in their daily lives."

If you are an elderly or disabled person in need of someone to help, call Mrs Coleman on 01784 255 706.

We'd like to hear from you.
