Staines and Sunbury firefighters face weather to reach fire
Firefighters drove through treacherous conditions on Thursday January 7 to put out a garage fire in Ashford.
Crews from Staines and Sunbury fire stations were called to Denman Drive at 3.30pm to an electrical fire in a residential garage.
."
Neighbours called the fire department after hearing a smoke alarm, which firefighters said helped prevent the fire from spreading.
Watch manager Tom Sheridan, of Sunbury fire station, said: "The prompt actions of the neighbour, who called us after hearing the smoke detector, prevented this fire from being a lot worse.
"It was also fortunate the door from the garage leading into the house was shut, as this prevented the fire spreading inside."
A water main also burst due to the fire, but after two hours the firemen had controlled the flames and left.
Mr Sheridan said: "There was some additional complications from the fact that a water main burst, but firefighters got the situation under control and left within two hours."
