Thieves stole thousands of pounds worth of car parts on Friday February 19 as they broke into a parked lorry trailer.

The high value burglary took place between 6pm Thursday (18) and 1pm Friday (19) when the criminals cut through padlocks to break into land next to Ashford Cemetery, off London Road.

Parents will be able to get storytelling tips at a library workshop held later this month.

On Thursday March 25 Alex Somerville will host the event where three to five year olds can hear him tell stories, and then give tips to their parents.

The free event is being held between 9.30-11am.

A teenage boy suffering from a life threatening heart condition had one of his all-time wishes granted when he visited Surrey Police's headquarters on Friday February 19.

Callum Dyer, 15, from Feltham Hill Road, Ashford, was diagnosed with severe congenital heart disease when he was born, which means he is unable to participate in most sports, or carry out vigorous exercise.

By the end of March new initiatives will have been put in place by Spelthorne council in an attempt to improve public confidence in dealing with crime and anti social behaviour.

A £42,000 grant has been given to the borough council by the Home Office to fund schemes and to buy new equipment which will reduce the amount of crime in Spelthorne.

One of the initiatives to have been given funding, is the Construction Bus scheme, which was put in place last year and teaches children from age 11 basic skills such as carpentry, plumbing and bricklaying.

Two tramps lovers who begged in and around Staines, Ashford and Egham have been given a second set of anti-social behaviour orders, this time lasting for five years.

Trevor Davison, 29, and Kerri Turner, 21 appeared at Staines Magistrates' Court on Thursdayb February 11 and were hit with the five-year order banning them from drinking or begging in Surrey.

Two masked robbers used guns during a morning raid on an Ashford travel agents today (Tuesday February 16)

The two men stormed into Thomson, in Church Road, at 9.45am with guns and threatened the two female employees.

The owner of N & J Fish and Chips would like to thank his customers for helping to raise nearly £400.

Nick Boddy, who runs the Staines Road West store gave all takings made on Monday (8) to UNICEF in aid of the Haiti earthquake disaster.

The amount raise was £397.50.

Mr Boddy said: "I would like to give a big thank you to all my customers for helping me do this."

Spelthorne Council are calling on the National Grid to restore an area of Woodland in Ashford which they left in a 'poor state' after contract work.

Contractors working for the grid removed about 40 mature poplar trees from a piece of land on the A308 near Bronzefield Prison in December to make overhead power lines safe, but they have been accused of 'over-stepping their boundaries' and cutting down more trees than needed and ruining the place.

Two young sports fans sang in front of 80,000 people, royalty, and world class rugby players at the start of the Twickenham Centenary Celebrations on Saturday February 6.

Aidan Parsons and Tom Ollason, both 13 and students at Matthew Arnold School in Staines, sang with 50 other people at Twickenham Stadium before the England versus Wales match in the Six Nations competition.
