Community order placed on thief who stole charity box from Spelthorne's offices

The police have welcomed two orders imposed on a man found guilty of the theft of a charity box from Spelthorne Council's offices last year.

Matthew Bennett, 19, of Bowes Road, Staines, appeared at Guildford Crown Court on Friday (March 19), and admitted to burglary and theft.

He was given a community and rehabilitation order for stealing the Royal British Legion poppy box from the Knowle Green offices in November last year, along with another crime.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: "We welcome the community and rehabilitation orders for Matthew Bennett which were imposed by Guildford Crown Court last week.

"Surrey Police will not tolerate serious offences, such as burglary and theft, and will take robust action to bring offenders to justice.

"The theft of the charity collection tin from the offices of Spelthorne Borough Council in November last year was a particularly appalling offence and we would like to thank the public for their assistance in tracking Bennett down."

Community order?

That'll be a deterrent against re-offending...Not.

6 months in feltham would be far more appropriate.
